GeekOS 0.3.0
has been released. In addition to many critical bug fixes, we now have
seamless support for compiling on Windows with Cygwin.
- 8 Sep 2004.
Updated the GeekOS in Education page.
The new educational release of GeekOS is being used
at the University of Maryland
and Denison University.
An updated educational release with improved projects
and documentation will be available sometime in
the not-too-distant future.
- 9 Mar 2004. I added a new screenshot
to the gallery
showing GeekOS running the ae editor.
This is the first real program ported to GeekOS!
- 3 Mar 2004.
GeekOS 0.2.0
is available. This is the new educational version of GeekOS,
described in our
paper at SIGCSE 2004.
- 12 Feb 2004. Work on
the GeekOS educational release is nearing completion. The
gallery has a new screen shot showing
the creation of a file.
- 7 Jan 2004. I put a new
screen shot in the gallery showing some
of the new features in the upcoming educational GeekOS release.
- 17 Dec 2003. GeekOS was mentioned in a
Slashdot story.
In other news, I am working on an educational version of GeekOS that
will consist of a series of projects which add processes, virtual memory,
a filesystem, and inter-process communication to the base system.
The release will coincide with a paper about GeekOS which I will present
at SIGCSE 2004.
HERE
- 30 Sep 2002. GeekOS development will be on hiatus for a while.
I plan to return to it at some point in the future, though.
- 24 June 2002. GeekOS will be on hiatus for two months,
due to my summer job. I am still reading email however, if you have any GeekOS-related questions
or comments.
- 20 May 2002. The IDE driver has been committed, and work has begun
on support for FAT filesystems.
- 30 Apr 2002. Work is progressing on block device support.
I hope to have a working IDE disk driver (based on contributed code)
in the next month or two. Update: the
IDE driver seems to be working. Check out the gallery
for a screenshot. I'll release the code as soon as I have
permission from the original author.

developer mailing list has been set up. (Click on the link
to subscribe.)
